What makes yesterday different from today? Size is a key factor in response to this question. Who's next in line for a bailout? How to talk to the dead? Illuminated leaders tend to talk with them in millions, billions, trillions, quadrillions and most recently, in zillions. The latest in a series of attempts to hide the fact that the whole wide world is financially, politically and morally bankrupt comes from the old continent, Europe. Consider this headline: "Europe Prepares Nuclear Response To Save Monetary Union". After a frantic weekend of negotiations in Brussels, the Eurozone's 16 finance ministers unveiled a package that pledges to guarantee the debt of any of the countries that use the euro. The unprecedented measures include: €440bn in loans or guarantees from Eurozone countries, €60bn from the European Union's Budget and up to €250bn from the International Monetary Fund. The European Central Bank said it will intervene in bond market and buy euro zone government and private bonds as a part of an historic bid to stave off a sovereign-debt crisis that threatens to destroy the euro. The Frankfurt-based ECB also reversed its withdrawal of emergency steps taken to tackle the global credit crisis, saying it will again offer banks as much cash as they want for terms of three and six months. It will also reactivate a swap line with the Federal Reserve and sell unlimited amounts of U.S. currency for seven and 84 days. The first operations will take place this week.

Josip Broz Tito i Socijalistička Federativna Republika Jugoslavija su uvijek bili aktualne vruće teme na kojima se i dan danas lome mnoga pitanja i o kojima se vode žustre rasprave. Razlog je vjerovatno vrlo jednostavne prirode, obećanja, ideje, želje i snovi novonastalih zemalja iz pepela bivše države, nisu se ostvarili. Jugoslavije više nema, no jesu li jugoslavenstvo i ideje o jugoslavenstvu doista mrtve?

Sada već sigurno znate što je to PIIGS. To su zemlje zbog previsoke zaduženosti pogrdno nazvane "svinje", u njih spadaju Portugal, Irska, Italija, Grčka i Španjolska. Jeste li čuli za STUPID? Niste? STUPID nije šala, STUPID je upravo postao oficijalni indeks: "The STUPID Sovereign Index", a u "glupane" spadaju Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, Portugal, Italy i Dubai. Usred globalne financijske krize koja hara svijetom ostavljajući iza sebe neprocjenjive katastrofalne štete i posljedice, nedavno, točnije 21 ožujka ove 2010 godine je u Zagrebu na inicijativu članova koordinacionog tijela Udruženja "Naša Jugoslavija" održan osnivački skup Saveza Jugoslavena. Vjerovatno ste o tome imali prilike nešto čuti, rijetko koji medij nije plasirao u javnost ovu vijest prilikom čega su čitaoci mogli saznati da je o ovom udruženju poznato relativno malo detalja, sve je izgledalo nekako "mistično".

Iz Udruženja "Naša Jugoslavija" su se odazvali na naš poziv za intervju na čemu im se veoma zahvaljujemo, postavili smo im i neka dosta provokativna pitanja, dakle evo prilike da saznate puno više o "Savezu Jugoslavena" i "Našoj Jugoslaviji", koji su uopće stavovi ove zajednice ljudi u odnosu na aktualnu društvenu problematiku?

Is Europe facing its own “Bear Stearns” moment? That was the question hanging over the markets on Wednesday as the sense of uncertainty spread. The AFP reports that three people were killed in a firebomb attack on a bank in central Athens on Wednesday during a demonstration. Twenty others were being evacuated from the building. It’s obvious that the firebombing is the result of the major economic crisis in Greece. People are upset, they fear that their futures, which once seemed so bright, are being taken away from them or at the very least clouded in darkness. This truly is a country on the brink of collapse. We can only wonder what its impact will be on the Euro and, of course, on the European Union as a whole.

"All of us are angry, very, very angry," bellowed Stella Stamou, a civil servant standing on a street corner, screaming herself hoarse, a block away from where the bank had been set alight. "You write that – angry, angry, angry, angry," she said, after participating in one of the biggest ever rallies to rock the capital since the return of democracy in 1974. "Angry with our own politicians, angry with the IMF, angry with the EU, angry that we have lost income, angry that we have never been told the truth.

Across Athens today the signs of that anger were everywhere: in the central boulevards and squares that resembled a war zone, the burning cars, the burning hotels, the burning government buildings and rubbish bins and shattered windows and pavements. What had started as a general strike called by unions to protest against deeply unpopular austerity measures turned into a tidal wave of fury as an estimated 100,000 private and public sector workers took to the streets screaming "let the plutocracy pay".

"Why should we, the little man, pay for this crisis?" said Giorgos Didimopoulos. "What people forget is that we Greeks don't like authority. We have always resisted when we think something is unfair. We fought against the Persians at Marathon, the Germans during the second world war and we will fight the IMF because in reality we no longer have a government. It is foreign forces who are in charge of us now."

Retiring Senator Chris Dodd's financial reform bill is now open for debate in the U.S. Senate. For the next few weeks, the public will be treated to media sound-bite snippets of Senatorial debate on various aspects of the Senate version of the reform bill. The bill is supposedly designed to prevent a replay of the 2008 crisis, in which 75 years of Federal financial reform laws proved utterly useless in preventing the crisis.

No one can accurately predict how long it will take to cap the leaking wellhead: it could be a matter of days, weeks, months.

Shoppers in France could soon be able to use their finger to pay for everyday shopping, in a move that aims to tackle fraud and speed up supermarket queues.


High-street bank Accord has been given permission by the French data protection authorities to start a six-month trial into the new biometric payment system.


The idea had been rejected by the Commission Nationale Informatique et Liberté on several occasions in the past because of fears that storing fingerprint data posed a privacy and security risk.


However the new system developed by Accord records the unique pattern of veins underneath a person's index finger - not the fingerprint itself.


The bank - which is owned by Auchan - will offer the service to a number of its current account customers and biometric readers will be installed in a number of its hypermarkets.


Customers begin by registering their finger data securely with their bank.


Touching the finger scanner at the checkout confirms the buyer's identity and the amount is then debited from their account.


The system is already proving popular in Germany, where supermarket chain Edeka has been using it since 2007.
